Waiting Season

Waiting is not wasted time—it is work. It takes effort to wait, and many of us struggle with feeling like we should be doing something more productive. Yet, waiting is often the hardest work we will do in life. It is also the time when God does His greatest work in us.

Waiting is challenging because people often prefer action over patience. However, during this season, we should focus on prayer, serving God, and deepening our relationship with Him. God often answers us first with His Word before manifesting His works. Between His promise and its fulfillment lies the process of waiting. This gap is where God develops patience, dependence, and purity in us.

For example, Jesus instructed His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit, and only 120 remained faithful during that period. Similarly, Jehoshaphat waited on God’s promise before witnessing His deliverance. Waiting refines us, preparing us for the promises ahead. It is a season of testing and temptation, where we must resist the urge to act out of impatience, as seen in the stories of Abraham, Saul, and Aaron.

God’s timing is perfect. He often prepares us or the provision itself during the waiting period. For instance, Israel was not ready to inherit the Promised Land immediately; God had to develop them first. Similarly, John the Baptist grew in the desert, a place of preparation. The wilderness is not wasted time but a place of growth in faith, prayer, and holiness.

Waiting also teaches us to trust God’s character and timing. Comparing our struggles to others’ successes can lead to discouragement. Instead, we should focus on our unique journey, trusting that God is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). Even in difficult seasons, God is developing us for the destiny He has promised.

The hardest work is often waiting, but it is also where God renews our strength (Isaiah 40:31). While we wait, we should serve, pray, and grow in our faith. Obedience is our responsibility; the miracle is God’s. Trust His Word, His character, and His timing. Replace complaining with worship, and let the waiting season refine you for the breakthrough ahead.

God often grants us promises of a brighter future, yet the journey to their fulfillment unfolds in His perfect timing. These seasons of waiting demand patience, trust, and unwavering faith.

How, then, can we endure these periods when progress seems elusive?

Consider the examples of biblical figures who exemplified steadfast faith: Joseph endured betrayal and slavery for thirteen years before rising to the position God had destined for him. David waited fifteen years before ascending to the throne as Israel’s king. Abraham, at the age of one hundred, witnessed the fulfillment of God’s promise of a son. Moses spent forty years in the wilderness before leading God’s people to freedom. Even Job, amidst unimaginable suffering, emerged with a deeper understanding of God’s sovereignty.

These stories remind us that trials are not obstacles but opportunities for spiritual refinement. Like metal forged in fire, our faith is strengthened through perseverance and trust in God’s plan. Even Jesus, the Son of God, spent thirty years in preparation before beginning His earthly ministry.

Rather than viewing waiting as a stagnant pause, embrace it as a season of growth. Use this time to deepen your relationship with God through prayer, reflection, and study of His Word. The wait is not a delay but a divine preparation for the next chapter of your journey.

Achievement is rarely instantaneous. Patience is tested in the waiting, and the temptation to act prematurely can be overwhelming. Yet, true progress requires the discipline to trust God’s timing and remain steadfast.

Waiting is not idleness; it is an active process of spiritual development. Like a master artisan, God uses these seasons to shape and refine us, preparing us for the fulfillment of His promises.

God’s plans often unfold in stages. He may provide a vision or a promise long before its fulfillment. This interim period is not wasted—it is a time of preparation, growth, and alignment with His will. Just as a seed requires time to germinate and grow, so too do we need time to mature in faith and readiness.

Trust in the divine process. Though waiting may be difficult, it is a necessary and purposeful step toward the future God has prepared for you. Embrace this season as an opportunity for growth, not despair, and rest in the assurance that His timing is perfect.
