Teach and Baptize - Explaining Matthew 28:19
Matthew 28:19
Matthew 28:19-20 – Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
The passage does not mention the transfer of authority from the apostles to their successors. This passage establishes Christ's commission to the apostles to teach and baptize, it doesn't explicitly establish a formal system of succession. The passage is primarily focused on the missionary mandate to spread the gospel, rather than establishing an institutional structure.
While Jesus promises His presence "to the end of the age," this doesn't necessarily imply a formal succession of authority, it means His spiritual presence is with all believers who carry out this mission.
