Toll Houses
The Eastern Orthodox Church teaches the doctrine of the aerial toll houses. According to this teaching, after death the soul passes through a series of spiritual checkpoints where demons accuse it of sins and attempt to prevent its journey toward heaven. While some Orthodox Christians view toll houses as a literal reality, others regard them as a theological opinion or symbolic description of spiritual judgment.
